Don Quixote is a ballet based on episodes taken from the famous novel "Quijote dela Mancha" by Miguel de Cervantes.
The ballet was originally performed in 1869 with Choreography by Marius Petipa and Music by Ledwig Minkus (1869). All modern productions of the Petipa/Minkus ballet are derived from the version staged by Alexander Gorsky for the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow in 1900, a production the ballet master staged for the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg in 1902.
IBTs 2016 performance of "Don Quixote" will be staged by Russian Ballet Master, Vera Altunina.
International Ballet Theatre brings to life the story of Don Quixote, a fanciful tale of a brave Spanish Conquistador obsessed with medieval chivalry who imagines himself to be a knight, and decides he must set out to revive chivalry, undo wrongs, and bring justice to the world, Along with his faithful servant, Sancho Panza, Don Quixote searches for his imagined and mythical love, Lady Dulcinea. International Ballet Theatre is honored to perform this ballet in its traditional style with beautifully crafted costumes, a real horse and donkey (on the stage) and a fiery Spanish flavor that transforms this 400 year old story into an entertaining and unforgettable live theater experience for the entire family.
