DIY Poultry Slaughter Workshop
The Side Yard Farm & Kitchen is hosting another DIY Poultry Slaughter Workshop on Sunday, April 10th. This workshop is offered twice a year in both spring and fall to teach the importance of humanely executing poultry. Many Portlanders raise backyard chickens and at some point will have to do this task if the bird gets sick, hurt or they are simply raising meat birds. We work with all poultry: chickens, ducks and turkeys. You are also welcome to B.Y.O.B (bring your own bird). The Side Yard Farm is proud to collaborate with local butcher and instructor, Chef Dan Brophy of Oregon Culinary Institute. This man is a world of knowledge and means business.
What to expect: DIY hands on experience. We offer smaller scaled workshops so that everyone that attends can have a true hands on experience on how to humanely slaughter poultry. Everyone will get a chance to slaughter their own bird if they are willing to. This experience can be very emotional, so we understand if you feel like standing back and watching instead of doing. This process can take up to a couple hours from slaughter to fabrication of the bird. You also get to take home your fabricated bird, even the eggs that you might find inside as well! Space is limited!!!
Cost: $40 Where: The Side Yard Farm-4800 ne Simpson St 97218 If you have questions please contact Stacey, thesideyardpdx@gmail.com
