In the midst of a war zone lies one of Israels musical epicenters. Only a mile from the Gaza Strip, the town of Sderot suffers frequent close-range Hamas rocket attacks with little or no warning. For decades, Jewish migrants from Morocco, Tunisia, Ethiopia and elsewhere have settled there, giving rise to an eclectic music scene that has revolutionized Israels musical identity. Deep in Sderots bomb shelters, young musicians struggle to carry on the citys artistic legacy amid ever increasing violence. An intimate and revealing portrait of a community surviving unimaginable circumstances, with music at the core. David Scholder
