Full Moon Hikes are one of DCs best outings and sell out quickly due to their popularity. Make sure your friends, family, co-workers and others will be able to enjoy this unique experience by booking this hike for your group. Age 16 and up. No pets, please. Maximum 25 per group.
The Group Hike is an opportunity to reserve a hike for a private group of 25 people. The registration and payment will be submitted by one person.
To make your experience more enjoyable, please note the following guidelines and share them with all of the group members:
Please remember that this is a moderately strenuous hike to appreciate the beauty of the arboretum at night and is not a guided tour of the arboretum collections. The group will hike approximately four miles at a brisk pace over hilly and uneven terrain for two hours with minimal stops.
Entrance will be through the R Street gate only (off Bladensburg Road). Free parking is just inside the gate. Do not enter the New York Avenue address into a GPS system, as it will lead you to a locked gate. For GPS, use 2400 R St. NE.
Ask your guests to arrive 15 to 30 minutes prior to the start of the hike. The group will leave the building promptly at the start time. The arboretum gate will be locked at the hike start time and no one will be allowed to enter after the program has started. The arboretum gates are locked daily at 5:00 p.m. and will reopen to hikers 30 minutes prior to the start of the hike. (Hike start times vary, so please check your time.)
Please make sure that everyone in the group receives this information. This will help them to be better prepared to enjoy the hike.
Flashlights adapted for night vision will be carried by the guide and volunteers only. The guide will ask the group to keep talking to a minimum to enhance the experience.
Sorry, no pets or children under 16 allowed.
Weather and Cancellations
Hikes will be held in many types of weather including light rain or snow. If the arboretum cancels the hike due to unsafe conditions or threat of inclement weather, you will be contacted by email on the afternoon of the hike.
US National Arboretum Refund Policy: A full refund will be provided for cancellations received no later than 10 days prior to the program date and for events canceled by the U.S. National Arboretum. Pursuant to the Debt Collection Improvement Act of 1996, the U.S. National Arboretum is required to obtain a Tax Identification Number or Social Security Number when writing a check, including refund checks. We do not reschedule missed programs.
