Les Filles Rouges, 2nd Annual Burlesque Extravaganza - presented by Gualala Arts
After the overwhelming success of last year's performances, Polaris Dance Troupe is back with bells on! Or should we say, bells off... Saturday, June 9, at 8:00 p.m.
Founder and local dancer and teacher Melinda Miller-Klopfer is bringing her acclaimed burlesque troupe 'Les Filles Rouges' back to Gualala by popular demand and it is definitely a show not to be missed. It marks not only the return of a troupe whose goal is to bring unique and relevant dancing to small communities, but also a European-style burlesque show with a strong foundation in feminism, empowerment and self-awareness.
Miller-Klopfer has spent extensive amounts of time in Paris and Berlin - two cities instrumental to the development of burlesque. She found the creative possibilities of the art form to be incredibly liberating and beautiful. Parallel to her own experience, most burlesque dancers were classically trained ballerinas who, due to injuries, could no longer perform as ballet required them to. Thus European burlesque tends towards sophistication rather than vulgarity.
'Les Filles Rouges ~ 2nd Annual Burlesque Extravaganza' is a grand spectacle in the style of the Pigalle district of Paris circa 1960. It is filled with the usual suspects: song, dance and underpants! Last year's show at Gualala Arts Center was a smash-hit. The lovely ladies and their dashing dudes are eagerly awaiting this chance to shake their tail feathers once again on the South Coast's grand stage!
This is an adults only performance, you must be 21 years of age or older. Photo ID will be required.
Tickets are $25 in advance, $5 more on the day of the performance. To purchase in person, visit the Gualala Arts Center or Dolphin Gallery in Gualala.
