The Battle of Central Park
THE BATTLE OF CENTRAL PARK tells the fascinating story of two iconic and divisive men, Robert Moses and Joseph Papp's tense legal battle regarding whether Mr. Papp would be allowed to produce Shakespeare's plays for free admission in Central Park. Weaving primary sources with original text and music brought to life on the stage in this movement-rich production, THE BATTLE OF CENTRAL PARK explores the contradictory and captivating relationship of two public figures who shared both immense stubbornness and love of New York City.
CURRENT HARBOR is a Brooklyn-based company creating theater, dance, and original music. The artistic core is comprised of Annalisa Ledson, Jamie Watkins and Mark Van Hare who have been collaborating on new work since 2011. Current Harbor's work provides contemporary storytelling driven by the architecture of the human body and the power of sound. Striving to tell stories that foster conversations about the society in which we live. Creating live performances steeped in a love of theatricality, an appreciation of the profound beauty and humor of the human body, and a brashly optimistic search for truth. In our increasingly digital & solitary existence, the performing arts provide a miraculous land bridge between the community and the individual. It is our belief that theatrical storytelling using movement and sound will engender a continued celebration of beauty, humor, history, empathy, and truth. www.currentharbor.com
