X Marks the Spot Literary Dinner presented by Scott Hall
You may not have been lucky enough to get in on one, but surely you've heard of these dinners before. A select group (the coolest kids, the in-the-know, taste-makers, trendsetters, you know who we're talking about) somehow show up at a predesignated location and pick up a secret map (and a secret cocktail) that takes them through the mist to another location, and maybe even another, until ultimately they are summoned by smell and order of Chef Scott Hall into a newly created dining room (didn't this place used to be a Chinese laundry? or was it a tattoo parlor?) that, like a portal in place and time, conveys you to a den of gastronomic divination. The wine is poured, a mezzo soprano sings to herself in the corner, (what is that smell? cardamom? anise?), the lights change from pale blue to chartreuse and a poet stands and reads a passage from something you know you've heard before. Before you on the table there appears your first course--you missed how it got there because you were watching that beautiful bald man in the yellow suit--but your first bite sets the pace for the night. One delicious literary themed dish after another, each with its own vino pour, until you're not sure if you're dreaming but you know you never want to wake up.
