Louis Moreau Institute
Music by Arnold Schoenberg,George Crumb, Luciano Berio, and Composer Competition Winner Ray Evanoff
The Louis Moreau Institute presented its first one-week season of performances in March 2015, with repertory providing a mix of new music from the last 100 years, as well as one work by a regional composer or a work somehow about the region and improvisation using traditional regional material as a foundation, played in a non-traditional way. The second season presents two performances in February 2016 including a piece by our composition competition winner.
The Louis Moreau Institute is a non-profit arts organization formed, in part, to honor Louis Moreau Gottschalk, the 19th century New Orleans composer who bridged cultural and musical worlds himself. Directed by Morris Rosenzweigcomposer, conductor, and New Orleans native who is a professor at the University of Utahthe LMI combines love of the city and music into an exciting series of musical events.
The Louis Moreau Institute also supports emerging, young performing artists from around the country, giving them the opportunity to perform a challenging repertory in non-traditional venues and to produce a recording of the performances. The 2015 and 2016 seasons' group of dynamic, enthralling musicians includes Laura Cocks, Arnaud Ghillebaert, Marina Kifferstein, Richard Valitutto, Tiffany Valvo, and Liam Veuve.
