Cider Tasting
Prior to Prohibition in the U.S., hard cider was to America what table wine is to France. Farms, communities, meals, and food itself revolved around the drink's presence. Changes brought about by the 20th century, however, meant that traditional cider mills and orchards didn't stand a chance.

Thankfully, there has been renewed excitement and consumption of hard cider in the past few years in the U.S. "True cider", defined primarily by the production process, can be as complex as a glass of wine.

Join us on Tuesday, May 29, for a brief talk led by Andy Brennan of Aaron Burr Cidery (Wurtsboro, NY), and Sara Grady of Glynwood (Cold Spring, NY). They will then lead you through a tasting of ciders from Aaron Burr, Eve's Cidery, and Slyboro Ciderhouse, all produced in upstate New York.

The evening's menu:

AARON BURR
Ginger Cider
Homestead Cider

EVE'S CIDERY
Autumn's Gold
Bittersweet

SLYBORO CIDERHOUSE
Hidden Star
Old Sin

More information about our guests -

Aaron Burr Cidery, located in Wurtsboro, NY, is a small homestead farm dating back to the early 19th century. They specialize in growing cider apples, which are different from eating-apples, in the same way wine-grapes are different from table-grapes. Their mission is to use their apples and other locally grown apples for the purpose of recreating "true cider." Visit their Facebook page for more info: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Cidery/123637988892?ref=ts

Glynwood's Apple Project aims to preserve apple orchards in the Hudson Valley by promoting the production of hard cider and apple spirits. The project will stimulate 'apple entrepreneurship' by encouraging the diversification of apple varieties, giving growers new resources for improved skills, and supporting a market for these products. Visit their website for more info: http://www.glynwood.org
