Code Switch
Code switching (v): the alternate use of two or more of a variety of languages, especially within the same discourse
Code switching is instinctual for some. For others, it's a way to advance and get ahead. For most, it's a way to try and fit in with peer groups. Code switching is all of these things, yet we all experience it very differently.
Contradiction Dance comes from many parts of the District and surrounding areas. We are men. We are women. We are black. We are white. We are mixed. We are rich. We are poor. We are making it. We are single mothers. We are married with children. We are lonely. We are friends. We are curious. We listen. We see. We dance. We speak with words and bodies. We are a contradiction.
CODE SWITCH is funded in part by the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities, an agency supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
