"Random Acts"
Part of the "Best of the New Works Series", benefiting the 2016 New Works Series.
Writer: Renata Hinrichs Director: Jessi D. Hill Performer/actress: Renata Hinrichs
"Random Acts" is a memoir piece about Ms. Hinrichs' early childhood growing up on the Southside of Chicago in the late 1960s. Her father was a young Lutheran Minister on the front lines of the Civil Rights movement. His first parish was on what was then the dividing line between the white and black neighborhoods, and he was intent on following the teachings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The story is based on what she witnessed as a young white girl watching both the outside world and her family as they struggled through times of painful transformation.

Emerging Artists returns with their one-of-a-kind festival, kicking off with a week of "Best of" encore performances from the last 3 years. Visit the theater any evening during this three-week event, and you'll find yourself transported in a number of surprising ways: by a single performer embodying a whole host of characters; by a more experimental theater piece "done differently" that challenges and delights; by a cozy two-person show exploring relationships; or perhaps by a bouncy new musical that will have you humming. Emerging Artists has always been about new works, new talents, new voices. That's never been more evident than now.
