Brass of the Potomac featuring International Trumpet Superstar Rex Richardson
Delight your ears with the sparkling sonorities of Brass of the Potomac! This concert features Northern-Virginia native and international trumpet superstar, Rex Richardson, performing a new commission for trumpet and brass band by composer Anthony Plog. The program will also include the test piece for the North American Brass Band Association Competition Championship section, Jan van der Roost's "From Ancient Times," as well works by Ralph Vaughan Williams, Eric Whitacre, Martin Ellerby, and others.
Renowned international trumpeter Rex Richardson is a Yamaha Performing Artist and a veteran of the acclaimed chamber group Rhythm & Brass, the Brass Band of Battle Creek, and jazz legend Joe Henderson's Quintet and Sextet. He teaches trumpet, jazz improvisation and chamber music at Virginia Commonwealth University and hold the title of International Tutor in Trumpet at the Royal Northern College of Music in England. He tours throughout the year as a clinician, recitalist, and soloist with orchestras, wind ensembles, big bands, and brass bands.
Under the direction of Stephen Bulla, Brass of the Potomac is comprised of over 30 professional musicians from around the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area, pulling its talent from the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Bands. Brass of the Potomac will be travelling to Fort Wayne, IN on April 1 and 2, 2016 to return to the North American Brass Band Championships.
