Experience Travel Writing, Part I Travel writing is all about storytelling. A sense of adventure is important and even a journalist's eye for detail. But you don't have to travel far to hone these skills. The first part of this class will give you the confidence and skills to seek out a rich story that will give readers something beyond what they find in guidebooks or online.
Experience Travel Writing, Part II Between the first class and this one, you will have traveled somewhere and written a story about it using the techniques from Part I. Remember, we live in one of the world's biggest tourist destinations so finding a spot to experience won't be difficult. We will critique stories in class and discuss possible markets for them. Suggestions for locations and details about story provided in Part I, also. About the Instructor: Janet K. Keeler is the former Travel Editor of the Tampa Bay Times Seven-time winner of the Green Eyeshade Award in travel writing from the Society of Professional Journalists.
Part I: Saturday, February 27 (1:00pm - 3:00pm) Part II: March 26 (1:00pm - 4:00pm)
***PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTEND BOTH SESSIONS. If registering for this class, you will be required to attend Part I and Part II. Between classes, participants will be expected to travel somewhere independently and write about it. Registering for Part I will automatically register you for Part II.
