Western Massachusetts' rising grunge-pop artists The Sun Parade -- "crafting the kinds of traditional guitar-pop songs that people might still be singing 50 years down the road (National Public Radio)" -- are touring four cities in New York and New England in February to introduce friends and fans at some of their favorite venues to their new Southern 'mates, The Congress.
The Congress is a Virginia-based four-piece, equal parts rock & roll, old-school soul, and outlaw country. Founded by Scott Lane and Jonathan Meadows, the band falls under the influence of the diverse music of their hometown of Richmond, where the spirit of jazz, prevails with infusions of r&b, neo-soul, punk rock, and Appalachian harmonies. The Congress has been living in Denver, Colorado for several years but moved back to Richmond in 2015 and is touring on the East Coast and recording a second LP.
The Congress and The Sun Parade have come together as part of the unofficial alumni association of rising bands who've toured in support of the national pop-music phenomenon Lake Street Dive.
Lake Street Dive once said, of The Sun Parade: They smack your buttocks with the utmost loving intent and rock n roll tenderness."

The two bands' first show together is Thursday, February 4th in The Sun Parade's hometown, Northampton, Massachusetts, and presented by Signature Sounds. Their second is February 11th at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, where The Sun Parade held residency in November. Friday, February 12th is Rockwood Music Hall, the first venue The Sun Parade played in New York City and recent "Memory Lane" tour venue for Lake Street Dive. February 13th is the Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock.
The Sun Parade calls its music "grunge-soaked powerpop" and lists, among its influences, The Beatles, Dr. Dog, Elliot Smith, Neil Young, Tame Impala, Lee "Scratch" Perry and bluegrass brother harmonies.
The title track of The Sun Parade's recent EP Heart's Out was chosen for National Public Radio's Songs We Love. [Full article: http://www.npr.org/2015/09/18/441252713/songs-we-love-the-sun-parade-hearts-out]
The Sun Parade is on the new Artist Development roster of the label Signature Sounds, whose recording artists include Lake Street Dive, Crooked Still, Josh Ritter, Chris Smither, and And The Kids.
