Young Choreographers Showcase and Prize 2016
San Diego Dance Theater Young Choreographers Showcase and Prize Saturday, March 12, 2016 8:00 pm Jean Isaacs has long been committed to nurturing the next generation of dancers and choreographers. Nowhere is this more evident than in the annual San Diego Dance Theater Young Choreographers Showcase and Prize, which this year features many new faces. Each year, local dance makers ages 18-35 submit performance videos and the final participants are selected by an esteemed curatorial team led by Jean Isaacs (Artistic Director San Diego Dance Theater), George Willis (Professor Emeritus, SDSU School of Music and Dance and co-founder of the San Diego Dance Theater) and Margaret Marshall (SDDT Board member and founder of the Dance Program in the UC San Diego Department of Theater and Dance).
A panel of four qualified expert judges - and the audience - will award $2,000 in prize money in three categories: "Audience Favorite," "Most Original Choreography," and "Most Compelling Performance by a Single Dancer." Eleven choreographers will compete in this energizing and exciting evening of new dance.
The grand prize of $1,000 for Most Original Choreography will be augmented this year by a fully-produced evening of the winner's choreography at our 2017 Live Arts Fest. JUDGES PANEL: Minerva Tapia, PhD - Cross Border Dance Activist Kevin Patterson - Director, SD Fringe Festival Kate Harrison Brill - Former Dancer, London Contemporary Kyle Sorensen - Co-Director Some Bodies Dance Theater, Winner of Young Choreographers Showcase 2012
