Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present...
Comedy Returns to El Rio!

Comedy Returns to El Rio is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig. It features an eclectic, multicultural mix of intelligent, progressive, straight, LGBT, and everything in between comedians from the Bay Area and beyond. The show has been taking place for the past 6-1/2 years at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District.

This month features: Diane Amos  (The Pine Sol Lady), Tom Ammiano (The Mother of Gay Comedy; former California Assemblymember), Francesca Fiorentini (comedian; Al Jazeera+ journalist), Mary Carouba (Arab-Irish comedian; author of Women at Ground Zero), and Lisa Geduldig (Your hostess).

She has also been a winner on the game shows: Wheel of Fortune, $25,000 Pyramid, and Super Password. Diane was raised in San Francisco by two lesbian mothers and attended Washington High School in the Richmond District, where took an improvisational comedy classand the rest is history.

Tom Ammiano, The Mother of Gay Comedy, has been a stand up comic since 1980 when he pioneered gay comedy night at the Valencia Rose in San Francisco. He is also a legendary SF leader who has served the city for four decades as a teacher, School Board President, President of the SF Board of Supervisors, and has had an unmatched record of achievement as a member of the State Assembly. In 1975, Tom came out as the first openly gay teacher in SF. In 1977 he worked on the No on 6 campaign with Harvey Milk, successfully defeating an anti-gay initiative to ban gay teachers in California. Tom went on to be elected to the SF Board of Education from 1990-1994, the Board of Supervisors from 1994-2008, and was elected to the California State Assembly in 2008. Tom has been at the forefront of reform on many issues including affordable housing, LGBTQ rights, education, labor, immigration, prisons, and marijuana. He has given a voice to underrepresented communities throughout his career.

Francesca Fiorentini is a comedy writer, performer, and journalist. She is a host and producer with AJ+, the online channel of Al Jazeera Media Network. As a stand up comic, Francesca has performed around the Bay Area including The Punchline and Cobb's, and at the Comedy Comedy Festival in Los Angeles.

Mary Carouba delights and confuses audiences with tales of her Arab-Irish upbringing and life with a father who was San Francisco's "Porno King" for decades. She is currently working on a one-woman play, "Life... It's Not For Everyone," and is the author of the acclaimed book, Women at Ground Zero. Mary performs internationally, specializing in comedy for helping professionals, as well as performing on domestic and international cruises.
