NVCM's Classical Kids Concert: Hillary Nordwell Pianist
On Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 1:30 pm and again at 3:00 pm NVCM's Classical Kids presents Hillary Nordwell and Comfy Concerts at Noe Valley Ministry performing Robert Schumann: Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6.
Two 45 minute shows repeat at 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm. Doors open half an hour before each show.
Each performance lasts approximately 45 minutes, and is suitable for all ages. The performances are designed for preschool and elementary age children (ages 4-11), with the earlier show geared more towards a younger audience and the later show geared towards slightly older children.
Audience members of all ages will be introduced to the lives, as well as the music, of the composers on the program. The goal is to connect the music to its time and place, and to the personalities and stories of the composers themselves.
PROGRAM: Robert Schumann: Davidsbündlertänze, Op. 6
TICKETS are $10-$25 ($10 per person, $25 family pass for up to 4 people.)
Robert Schumann sent Clara these words, along with the Davidsbündlertänze, during their time of separation, enforced by Clara's father because he didn't approve of their relationship:
"You will, I know, make a little place in your heart for them, because they are mine. But my Clara will know how to find the real meaning of these dances, for they are dedicated to her in a quite special sense I never spent happier moments at the piano than in composing these." There will also be a "petting zoo" of the instruments after the performances.
This concert has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the San Francisco Arts Council. Additional support provided by Salesforce.org.
About Hillary Nordwell
Hillary Nordwell, piano, founded Comfy Concerts, a new venture intended to bring quality musical performances to busy parents, friends, and relatives of young children, while including the younger generation with age-appropriate activities in the midst of the music-making. Audiences are introduced to the lives and music of the composers, connecting the music to its time and place, and to the personalities of the composers themselves, making her a perfect partner for Classical Kids.
Hillary is an active performer on both piano and viola and has performed chamber music throughout the United States, as well as in Italy, Austria, Germany, and Sweden. She has performed in the Weill Recital Hall (Carnegie Hall, New York), and has won numerous prizes and honors for her outstanding accomplishments as a pianist. Hillary earned her MA in Chamber Music Performance from the SF Conservatory of Music. She teaches young musicians privately and offers chamber music coaching in Pacifica, CA.
Hillary has been featured on many Bay Area concert series including Noontime Concerts, Trinity Chamber Concerts, Old First Concerts, 405 Shrader, and the Bing Concert Series at Stanford University Hospital. Alongside her performing career, she enjoys working with young musicians in both private lessons and chamber music at her home studio in Pacifica, CA, where she is also the mother of a 4 year old daughter.
