Morro Bay Museum Microscopy : Viewing the Unseen World --Jerry Kirkhart
Many of us have used a hand-held magnifier to help with splinter removal. That's only the first step in magnification. Imagine being able to clearly see the dots and dashes that make up the printing on a dollar bill, bacteria visible as small dots, the intricate patterns on a moth wing, or the surprising colors and shapes within a plant leaf.
In this course you will learn how to to achieve that degree of magnification. Jerry Kirkhart, biologist/zoologist and experienced microscopist, will use and show you how to use the equipment at the Morro Bay Museum. You will see both the small and the very small.
Jerry will show amazingly small items on a screen using the video microscope. Then, in a hands-on segment, he will also teach those of you who attend this course how to use both the stereo and compound microscopes for your own viewing. By the time the class is completed, you will feel very comfortable using both compound microscopes and stereo microscopes. You will also know how to properly clean the optics, and how best to observe your specimens.
Jerry Kirkhart taught Bio/Zoology for over 43 years (with 25 years in high school and 18 plus years in a community college). Jerry has also had a microscope business and has serviced and sold microscopes since 1972.
