The Lakes Area Music Festival announces it's 2016 season with an event titled "Inspired by Shakespeare: From Beethoven to Broadway", featuring performers from the twin cities and around the country.
Cocktail hour will begin at 6:00 p.m. with buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. and musical program beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The program will feature vocal and instrumental selections based on, or inspired by, Shakespearian classics. Solo piano and string chamber music will include Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 17 "The Tempest" and Piano Trio in D major "Ghost" as well as the romantic suite for violin from Erich Korngold's "Much Ado About Nothing". Vocal selections will span from sonnet settings by Franz Schubert to Broadway hits from "Kiss Me, Kate" (Cole Porter) and "West Side Story" (Leonard Bernstein).
Festival favorite, pianist Gregory DeTurck will return to the Lakes Area along with Bergen Baker (soprano), Christian Zamora (violin), and Scott Lykins (cello). This event will coordinate with the season announcement for the Lakes Area Music Festival's eighth annual series to be held in Brainerd from July 31 through August 21, 2016.
