Sam Cady presents Blind Runners film & Conversation, with Producer Daphnee Breytenbach
6pm with film showing at 7pm
Blind Runners, a 26-minute documentary, recounts a social tragedy in Ethiopia highlighting the work of the Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP), and its efforts to eradicate preventable blindness in developing countries. This film demonstrates how HCP fights unnecessary blindness in Ethiopia through the countries dominate passion and pride: running. The producers trailed and filmed the blind and visually impaired who talk about their life in the dark. You will better understand how the HCP, doctors, trainers and runners are rallying for the same cause of curing blindness through eye surgery by organizing and taking part in a monumental race on the mythical high plateaus of the Gheralta. The Himalayan Cataract Project (www.cureblindess.org) is a non-profit based in Vermont working to eradicate preventable and treatable blindness through high-quality ophthalmic care, education and the establishment of a world-class infrastructure. HCP reaches the most inaccessible patients wherever its services are needed through a combination of teaching ophthalmic care at all levels, establishing self-sustaining eye care centers and supporting partners to perform high quality, low cost cataract operations in 10 minutes with excellent outcomes.
