The Bell Sisters
It is the summer of 1896 and it will be the last season of their childhood. Elsie and Daisy Bell are the daughters of Mabel, a brilliant social reformer, and Alec, the famed inventor of the telephone. Their home on the Bras d'Or lakes near Baddeck is a magical place filled with wild inventions, flying kites, burgeoning gardens, passionate music, and imagination. Here, Elsie and Daisy are unbound by the conventions and constraints of high society. But both daughters are fearful of the future. Through intellectual exploration, friendships formed with other girls from Baddeck, and the love of their strong mother, Elsie and Daisy learn to overcome their fears and transform into strong young women.
Combining choral singing, movement, spoken word, projected illustrations, and theatrical presentation, this show combines history with drama in a compelling, all-ages show. Featuring music by Sarah Quartel, Stephen Hatfield, Susan Brumfield, and others plus original illustrations by local artist Colleen MacIsaac, this show promises to be a feast for the senses.
