Solo Sundays 2/21/16 Thao P. Nguyen, Amy Kilgard, Abas Idris, Phil Surkis
Hilarious, Heartbreaking & Provocative Solo Performances
P H I L . S U R K I S -------------------------------------------------- "I'll Try It For A Year"
After a 5 year self-imposed exile from society, Phil is invited by his sister to visit San Francisco. He samples some organic green tea. Disappointed by the taste, he returns home to his basement, and plays some avant-garde jazz. Disappointed by the music, he considers revisiting green tea.
A B A S . I D R I S -------------------------------------------------- "The plight of being polite"
Sitting at the dinner table of his father's co-worker, Abas wasn't sure what to say. While growing up he was told to always be polite. Which makes sense. So he didn't mention that he thought drinking milk with dinner was bizarre. Which table manners do you use when you politely want to say, "Actually, it is about race."
T H A O . P . N G U Y E N -------------------------------------------------- "Four Eyebrows" and "One Nose Hair"
"Four Eyebrows." Thao has four eyebrows. Two over each eyeball. She's tried to fix it -- pluck it, wax it, thread it -- but no dice. She has exactly one week to grow in her missing eyebrow hairs before her big TV interview.
"One Nose Hair." When Thao was 10 years old, she had a hair who lived in her nose and gave her advice. The nose hair's most important message? Puberty is coming!
A M Y . K . K I L G A R D -------------------------------------------------- "Returns and Other Consumer Tragedies" Excerpts from Triskaidekaphobia
The filthy pigs er, customers have wreaked havoc in the Targé aisles and left a disaster area in their wake. Amy secretly plots their destruction from lane 13. Will she finally crack the mystery of bizarre customer behaviors or will she just crack?
Solo Sundays, San Francisco's premier monthly showcase, presents select samplings of veteran virtuosos and top emerging talent in the intimate Stage Werx theater in San Francisco's Mission District. Beyond stand-up and storytelling, solo theater creates casts of thousands - plus special effects - all bursting from a single performer. The results are hilarious and heartbreaking, passionate and provocative, ablaze with personal visions.
