Human Trafficking as Modern Day Slavery: Imagining Freedom & the Art of Stuart Riordan
The Survive & Thrive Advocacy Center (STAC) will host its inaugural event, an art opening and fundraiser, on January 16th from 5p-7p at the LeMoyne Center for Visual Arts.
Original artwork by internationally known artist Stuart Riordan portraying many of the harsh realities and stories of modern day slavery will be on display. The event will also include music by local band Tocamos Mas, food provided by Vertigo, and informational tables with educational resources and materials.
Those interested in evocative art, amazing music and in advancing human rights are invited to attend. Event admission is $20. Tickets are available for purchase in advance online and at the door.
This event is part of a month-long community awareness campaign during the month of January, Human Trafficking Awareness Month, in partnership with the Big Bend Coalition Against Human Trafficking (BBCAHT).
ABOUT STAC The Survive & Thrive Advocacy Center (STAC) was founded because of the great need in the Tallahassee and Leon County area for comprehensive human trafficking victim assistance. The mission of STAC is twofold:
- to work with existing agencies and organizations as a single point of contact for those who are assisting victims, and
- to collaborate to provide needed services to victims such as shelter, case management, health care, legal services, education, job assistance, and counseling.
