Christopher Hayes: The Harder They Fall
Over the past decade, Americans watched in bafflement and rage as one institution after another - from Wall Street to Congress, the Catholic Church to corporate America, even Major League Baseball - imploded under the weight of corruption and incompetence. MSNBC host Christopher Hayes, author of Twilight of the Elites, traces the roots of this crisis to the 1960's-era meritocracy, in which the public permitted power, riches, and fame on a few, so that they could run things effectively. But those few broke the social contract, and failure and corruption run rampant. The 1% must fall, if not by occupation, then by some other reform. Hayes says the reckoning is nigh. Presented by the Town Hall Center for Civic Life with Elliott Bay Book Company. Series media sponsorship provided by PubliCola. Series supported by The Boeing Company, the RealNetworks Foundation, and the True/Brown Foundation.
