Coastal Winds woodwind quintet and Wine Country Brass
A concert featuring two local quintets, the Coastal Winds woodwind quintet and Wine Country Brass.
Coastal Winds will perform the Nielsen Woodwind Quintet and the Trio for Oboe, Clarinet, and Bassoon by local composer Mazdak Khamda. Other works on the program will be Gunther Schuller's jazz based wind quintet and Malcolm Arnold's rolicking Sea Shanties.
Wine Country Brass will present a program of brass quintet music. The composers featured will vary from JS Bach and William Byrd to Kevin McKee and Billy Strayhorn.
Mr Khamda's Trio, Coastal Winds' featured contemporary work, takes it's emotional content from his Persian roots where the joys of family life were punctuated by overwhelming grief from the loss of family and friends in war. The long clarinet solo is written in a style that celebrates a traditional Persian style of singing.
