A Raisin in the Sun
Directed by Mitchell Vantrease, "A Raisin in the Sun" tells the story of the Youngers, an African American family on the south side of Chicago. The family receives a $10,000 insurance check after the patriarch dies and everyone has their idea on what to do with the money. "Raisin" is the first play to be written and produced on Broadway by an African American woman, Lorraine Hansberry and starred Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee. The play has been revived in the last 10 years with two Tony Award winning revivals.
This production will take place at historic landmark Wilson County Civic League Market Street Community Center and feature a local cast mostly from the Wilson County area.
