AN ART THAT NATURE MAKES (USA, 2015, 75 min.) Washington, D.C. Premiere Photographer Rosamond Purcell finds life and beauty in the most unlikely of places: in junkyards and libraries and the backrooms of natural history collections. Transformed by her camera, using only natural light, decaying objects become uncannily alive, bearing the marks of their atmospheric conditions while evoking fantasies of other, stranger life forms. An Art That Nature Makes delves into the engagement with the environment that forms the crux of her photography, incorporating interviews with her scientist collaborators and admirers like filmmaker Errol Morris. Directed by Molly Bernstein. Produced by Alan Edelstein. Executive Producer: Philip Dolin.
Discussion with filmmaker Molly Bernstein, film subject Rosamond Purcell and Director, Folger Shakespeare Library, Dr. Michael Witmore, follows screening.
