The Odd Couple
The legendary, classic Neil Simon comedy that has lit up Broadway more than once comes to the Plaza Playhouse Theater, March 11-20, 2016.
Obsessively neat TV newswriter Felix has been thrown out of the house by his wife. He's despondent, and as he joins his weekly poker game at his recently divorced and slovenly friend Oscar's house, he's suicidal and manic. Oscar takes him in and the alliance between the two proves touching and hilarious. The Odd Couple has not only been a Broadway success multiple times but almost everyone has seen one TV version or another featuring these popular characters, the most recent in 2015.
DIJO Productions' cast features Ed Giron as Felix and William Waxman as Oscar. Ed has had feature roles in Santa Barbara in Brooklyn Boy, Ghetto (which he directed), New Jerusalem, Inherit the Wind, and Frost/Nixon (Independent Award for Performance). In Los Angeles he's been featured in Royal Family, Heartbreak House (LA Drama Critics Circle nomination for Best Play), and Merlin. Bill has had feature roles in Santa Barbara in Twelve Angry Men, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Ghetto and New Jerusalem. Both Ed and Bill have had several of their plays produced here in Santa Barbara as well. Michele Minor appears as Gwendolyn Pigeon, one of the eccentric and hilarious sisters who entice the odd couple to date again. Singer/dancer /actress Michele has been recently seen in a collection of Ed Giron's plays titled Reconnected, in the Music Man at the Garvin, and Swing at Victoria Hall. Prominent in the cast are the odd couple's best friends and poker playing buddies, played by Gene Garcia (Christmas Carol, Carbon Dating. Over the River and Through the Woods), Frank Artusio (Cash on Delivery, SB Opera, Arsenic and Old Lace), Stuart Orenstein (Amadeus, Ghetto, Inherit the Wind, The Bet, 12 Angry Men) and Jerry Oshinsky (Brooklyn Boy, Ghetto, New Jerusalem, Conversations in Tusculum). Jerry is also the Executive Director of DIJO Productions, which is well known for its productions of historical plays, including the upcoming Democracy at Center Stage Theater.
The Odd Couple runs for seven performances March 11 at 8 pm, March 12 at 3 and 8 pm; and March 18 at 8pm, March 19 and 3 and 8 pm and March 20 at 3 pm; with a special invitational performance March 10 at 8.
