THE BABUSHKAS OF CHERNOBYL (USA, 2015, 72 min.)
Washington, DC Premiere
Inside the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, a defiant community of women lives on some of the most toxic land on Earth. They share this beguiling yet lethal landscape with an assortment of visitors: scientists, soldiers, and ven 'stalkers,' young thrill-seekers who sneak in to pursue post-apocalyptic fantasies. The story of the self-described "Babushkas" who chose to return after the disaster, defying the authorities and endangering their health, speaks volumes about the pull of home, the desire for free will, and the subjective nature of risk. Directed and produced by Holly Morris and Anne Bogart.

Discussion with filmmaker Holly Morris follows screening.
