One Great City brings a journey of discovery to every recital they prepare." Praised by Sérgio Assad as a "unique guitar duo... beautiful blending of voice, guitars, and creative repertoire," One Great City Duo crystalized in 2011, and immediately began building a repertoire unique to them, combining Alexandra's abilities both as a guitarist and a soprano with their love and dedication to chamber music. One Great City Duo recently recorded their debut album, titled "Excursions," produced by Sérgio Assad, at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. The CD features Sherren's transcriptions of Ned Rorem, Samuel Barber, Cole Porter, and Pat Metheny, as well as original guitar duo music by Celso Machado. It will be released in early 2016. This season's highlights include appearances at Old First Concerts, the Center for New Music, the Peninsula Guitar Series, the Hot Air Music Festival, and an in-studio appearance on KALW 91.7 FM's Revolutions Per Minute, hosted by Sarah Cahill. One Great City Duo has recently premiered the works of two outstanding young composers, Eric Choate and Shahab Paranj, at the Center for New Music in March, where Timothy also gave the West Coast premiere of Judah Adashi's Meditation for Solo Guitar. This collaboration was the feature of a documentary film, through a partnership of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the Center for New Music. One Great City Duo was a finalist of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music's 2012-2013 Concerto Competition, and was named Artist in Residence of the Chamber Music in Marin Concert Series 2013-2014. Additionally, Alexandra Iranfar gave the world premiere of two-time Grammy Award-winning artist Christopher Tin's new song written especially for her unique ability. Timothy and Alexandra completed their Master of Music degrees and Professional Studies Diplomas at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where they were guitar department assistants to David Tanenbaum, and studied privately and as a duo with scholarship under Grammy Award winning artist Sérgio Assad. They both earned their Bachelor of Music degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
