Gabriela & La Buena Onda @ The GO!
The Grassroots Oasis (GO) is excited to have Gabriela & La Buena Onda join us to celebrate Carnival! Carnival is a rite of passage from darkness to light, from winter to summer: the first spring festival of the new year.
Born into a South American family & culture, Gabriela grew up in balmy southeast Florida, where eclectic music and summer breezes were always a staple. Saturday nights were spent listening to tango, Uruguayan folk music, the Beatles and old Motown hits while her parents danced folklore. She was a natural fine artist, always drawing and wanted to animate for Disney. Studying the piano as a child, she would shyly sing alone, but then switched to guitar when she realized she had a natural ear for singing melodies. While at UCF, Gabriela learned the true meaning of dedication and perseverance and set out to become a songwriter. Songwriting was an easier way to express what she never could on canvas and paper. To be able to express a thought wrapped around a melody was something pretty magical.
Gabriela began writing and playing in Orlando for several years, while building a small following, released a demo in 2002 and then released her first full length album in 2004, 'In the Interim', produced by Davey Schweizer and recorded at Richter Records Studio. 'Love Your Everything', a song from the album, made it on the rotation at WPRK 91.5. That opened up the doors to play various venues in town: FL Music Festival, House of Blues, Hard Rock, singing the national anthem at a Magic game, and some odd jobs like singing jingles and film/theatre work.
Shortly after, Gabriela met NY producer, Darrell Briscoe of Two Galleries Entertainment, and began playing at various venues in NYC: The Bitter End, Gibson Showroom, Sony Music studio. That led to recording her second album during Hurricane Charley. It was to be released end of 2005 or early 2006, but life has a funny way of tempering you when you least expect it...this album was never released due to circumstances beyond Gabriela's control.
She took a few years off to regroup after that stint, and got back into playing and writing again. Music never leaves your soul, does it... In 2013, Gabriela met producer Gerry Williams of GW-1 Productions, and recorded a few tracks that were aired on The Upbeat Dancer Show, on COX TV 23 in Orlando, FL.
In early 2014, Gabriela relocated to San Diego, CA, where she continues to grow her grassroots following. Her unique blend of soulful, jazzy, latin, funky acoustic pop soothes your soul and melts your ears. Her warm tone and laid back demeanor sends chill love vibes up and down your spine.
