Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Alan Rickman tribute)
Newcastle Castle  the city's ancient Castle Keep and Black Gate  will be hosting a special charity showing of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on Easter Monday (28th March), in tribute to screen legend Alan Rickman  with £2 from each ticket sale going to Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle.

Marie Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal 2016 takes place across March, and daffodil badges will be available to buy for a small donation at the event. Rickman was not connected with the charity, however this is going to be a great way to raise money towards people with a terminal illness and their families getting the very best care and support.

In the 1991 retelling of the classic legend, Robin of Loxley (Kevin Costner) takes from the rich to give to the poor, leading a revolt from the depths of Sherwood Forest. The iconic film features a scene-stealing performance from the late, great Rickman as the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham who plots to marry Maid Marian, ban Christmas and even vows to cut his enemy's heart out with a spoon!

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves also stars Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater, plus Sean Connery in an uncredited turn as King Richard the Lionheart. The action takes place in the 1190s (albeit with a number of well-documented anachronisms not to mention American accents!), just over a decade after Newcastle's stone Castle was completed at the order of King Henry II in 1178, replacing the earlier wooden fortress.

The film is also remembered for its title song '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You', which stayed at Number One in the UK Singles Charts for an incredible sixteen weeks.

The screening is taking place in the Great Hall of the Castle Keep on Easter Monday at 5.30pm and will be attended by costumed members of the Black Gate Combat Academy.
Please note: The Great Hall of the Castle Keep is unfortunately inaccessible to wheelchair users.
