Saxophone and piano player James Merenda has performed with artists as diverse as Roswell Rudd and Beat Science, Cameron Brown, Joe McPhee, Joe Hunt, former Ornette Coleman keyboardist Dave Bryant, Grammy Award-winning pianist David Maxwell, Either/Orchestra, Aardvark Orchestra, The Slip, contemporary guitarists Marc Ribot, David Fiuczynsdi, Dave Tronzo. Locally, James composes for and leads the group TickleJuice. He also regulalry plays duo with Ticklejuice bassist Jon Dreyer.
Jon Dreyer is a Boston-area bassist and cellist who has performed extensively with pianist Harvey Diamond, one of Lennie Tristano's last protégés, as well as frequently performing with James. Jon has previously performed with such notables as Hankus Netsky, Stanley Sagov, Ken Field, Grace Kelly, Roy Nathanson, Joe Hunt and many others.
Drummer Miki Matsuki was born in Matsuyama, Japan, and moved to the United States to study jazz at Berklee College of Music in 1996. Over the last 15 years, Miki has performed and recorded in various musical settings, including performances through radio and TV broadcasting, a musical tour of Korea, and soundtrack work, and she performs regularly in the Boston area and beyond. Miki has performed with many great musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Joanne Brackeen, George Garzone, John Tchicai and many others.
Note that Third Life is a small storefront healing & performing arts studio, not a bar or restaurant. There will likely be soft drinks and nibbles available for donation at the venue, but please plan to come early and stay late to eat & drink at one of Union Square's many fine bars & restaurants.
