LENNY PETTINELLI BAND LEADER & LEAD VOCALIST, PIANIST
Originally from Los Angeles, CA (but now happily relocated to Asheville, NC)  Lenny Pettinelli has worked on all sides of the Music Industry from production to performance to promotion.  He has studied music in one form or another since the age of 8.  As a pianist, keyboardist and arranger/writer, Pettinelli has been on dozens of records in multiple genres since his early 20's and has since moved into singing, production, harmonic arrangement and education.  He is a student and teacher of classic and jazz theory as well as piano and voice.  In addition to playing with jazz orchestras, big bands, and jazz combos throughout his college years, he has studied orchestration, arrangement, composition and counterpoint as well.  Lenny truly believes that music is a universal language understood by people of all nations and his love and passion for it translates through his fingers and voice when he is playing and singing.  As a solo pianist and vocalist or as a side man and producer,  his purpose is to evoke emotion.  Whether it's a pop tune,  a pretty jazz ballad,  a romantic bossa,  an up-tempo swing, or one of his many original songs Pettinelli is sure to put his heart and soul into every performance.
Locally here in Asheville,  Lenny is currently involved in performance and production with Empire Strikes Brass, the Wild Card Trio, A Social Function, David Earl and the Plowshares, Moonshine River,  Chris Coleman and more as well as previous work with Kat Williams,  Jeff Thompson, Taylor Martin, The Jarvis Jenkins Band, One Tribe Reggae Band, Peggy Ratusz, the Get Right Band, Andrew Scotchie and the River Rats and many more.  Nationally, he has performed with grammy-winning artists such as Jeff Coffin (saxophonist with Dave Matthews Band and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones) and Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule) as well as Chris Bullock (saxophonist with Snarky Puppy).  Pettinelli has also collaborated with renowned artists like Michael Ray (trumpeter with Sun Ra and Kool and the Gang),  Scott Flynn (trombonist with Pretty Lights and Elephant Wrecking Ball),  Anthony Wellington (2nd bass with the Victor Wooten Band), Hip Hop legends Myka Nine (Freestyle Fellowship, Haiku d'etat) and Medusa  as well as Studio One Reggae legends like Papa Michigan and General Smiley,  Lloyd Hemmings,  Judah Eskender Tafari (formerly Ronald Merrils) and Admiral Tibet among other reggae greats such as VP Records artist Ishi Dube,  De Apostle,  Ras Attitude and members of the Billboard #1 reggae band The Expanders.
Pettinelli's influences are as versatile as his repertoire and resumé - spanning from Charles Mingus, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Antonio Carlos Jobim,  Frank Sinatra,  Duke Ellington, Wayne Shorter, Ray Charles and Sarah Vaughn all the way out to The Kinks, Neil Young, Billy Joel, Lake Street Dive, the Allman Brothers, Dr. John, Roy Hargrove, Donny Hathaway, the Beatles, Bob Marley, the Stones, John Medeski, Marvin Gaye and many more.  Pettinelli definitely believes that there is great music found within all genres of music in all cultures all over the world.  This is the mentality that has led him to follow his dreams to create a wide spectrum of both acoustic and electronically produced music of all styles.   He is the driving force behind the Asheville-based co-op independent record label Vibration of Versatility (VOV) which has pledged to donate 30% of all net profits from it's volume series to various music education charities and foundations on the regional, national, and international level. Pettinelli is well versed in Jazz, Rock, Funk, Reggae, Folk, Electronic, and R&B music but is always willing to play pretty much anything. Working with an impressive 100 + artists from different scenes, Pettinelli aims to write, perform, and produce new and original music of all genres and styles.  Having played over 2,000 shows in many different settings solo and ensemble,  Lenny Pettinelli has made music his life.  As a listener, one is sure to catch some of his influences in his performance and it is quite possible that he shares some of their favorite influences as well.

ABOUT THE LEGENDARY DR. JOHN
Content from Wikipedia
"Malcolm John "Mac" Rebennack (born November 21, 1940), better known by the stage name Dr. John (also Dr. John Creaux, or Dr. John the Night Tripper), is an American singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist, whose music combines blues, pop, jazz as well as zydeco, boogie woogie and rock and roll.[;;;1];;;

Active as a session musician since the late 1950s, he gained a cult following in the late 1960s following the release of his album Gris-Gris and his appearance at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music. He performed a wildly theatrical stage show inspired by medicine shows, Mardi Gras costumes and voodoo ceremonies. Rebennack has recorded over 20 albums and in 1973 scored a top-20 hit with the jaunty funk-flavored "Right Place Wrong Time", still his best-known song.

The winner of six Grammy Awards, Rebennack was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by singer John Legend on March 14, 2011.[;;;2];;; In May 2013, Rebennack was the recipient of an honorary doctorate of fine arts from Tulane University. He was jokingly referred to by Tulane's president, Scott Cowen, as "Dr. Dr. John"."
