We apologize, but due to low enrollment we have canceled this workshop. We hope to reschedule for later this spring.

Time In A Bottle
If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you
--Jim Croce

In this hands-on workshop, poet and teaching artist Kate Rushin will guide participants as they write their own 'message in a bottle' in verse.

Come and be inspired by songs, poems and accounts of love messages tossed into the sea. Then choose from bottles and materials provided to create your designs, or bring your own. Feel free to bring special objects (a photo, a key, a shell, a feather, a marble) to place in the bottle along with your wishes, dreams, and declarations.

This poetry workshop is for all levels of experience.

Honor  a loved-one.

Commemorate a special occasion.  Make someone laugh.
Create a unique Valentine.

Sponsored by Chelsea Groton Bank.

Kate Rushin is the author of The Black Back-Ups (Firebrand Books). Her "The Bridge Poem" appears in This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color, a ground-breaking feminist anthology edited by CherrĂe Moraga and Gloria E. AnzaldĂșa. Recipient of the Rose Low Rome Memorial Poetry Prize and the Grolier Poetry Prize, her work is widely anthologized and has been published in such journals as Callaloo.

A Connecticut resident, Kate has read at Hill-Stead Museum's Sunken Garden Poetry Festival, the Geraldine Dodge Poetry Festival and Smith College Poetry Center, among many other places, and has led workshops for the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies and Cave Canem Foundation. She has served as a judge for the Connecticut State University-IMPAC Young Writers Award, the Connecticut Poetry Circuit Student Poetry Contest, and the NEA's/Poetry Foundation's Poetry Out Loud.

Kate received her B.A. from Oberlin College and her M.F.A. from Brown University. She is a former Fellow of The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and a graduate fellow of Cave Canem Foundation.

"Rushin's teaching and readings over the past two decades reflect her commitment to the songs of everyday people. Like Whitman, she hears ' America singing.'"
