Karma Mayet Johnson: Rootwoman Concerts
Although online sales have ended, tickets will be available for purchase at the door.
Singer/composer Karma Mayet Johnson offers two nights of Roots music for the 21st century, via a sound made of equal parts funk and glitter, Spanish Moss, cornbread and molasses. It's a sonic journey of her roots/routes from Mississippi to Chicago, to D.C. and Brooklyn, gathering Conjure recipes along the way. The two concerts one month apart will feature a different set list for each night. PERFORMANCES: Monday, February 1 and Wednesday, March 2 at 8 pm Tickets: $15
Karma Mayet Johnson has performed around the U.S. at venues like the Apollo and the Blue Note, and internationally in Australia, Italy, Portugal, France, Curacao, and the UAE. She's made music with Meshell Ndegeocello, Burnt Sugar, Toshi Reagon, Vernon Reid, and The Roots, and with renowned theater directors Robert Wilson, Peter Sellars, Patricia McGregor, Robert Alexander, and Bill T. Jones. She is composer of Indigo, a Blues opera, a love story of Lesbians on the Underground Railroad. Her newest collection, entitled Rootwoman, is scheduled for release in the Spring of 2016.
