The Cherokee Word for Water
BIMA and Port Townsend Film Festival present: The Cherokee Word for Water
Based on a true story about Wilma Mankiller
Welcome Cherokee activist and director Charlie Soap and producer Kristina Keihl for a special screening of The Cherokee Word for Water, the inspired tale of Wilma Mankiller, first female leader of the Cherokee nation. Wilma saw the need for fresh water on reservation where hundreds of her tribe were carrying water to their homes. When she was told the only way to accomplish this would be to dig a trench 18 miles long, she accomplished the impossible with an open heart and a determined spirit.
This special screening will include a discussion with Director Charlie Soap and Producer Kristina Kiehl.
With support from Peninsula College, The Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe and the Quileute Tribe.
