Amygdala Rest
AMYGDALA REST February 12 at 7:30pm, February 13 at 3:00pm & 7:30pm Doejo ~ 23 E. Illinois St. ~ Chicago, IL (enter through After-Words New and Used Books) Running time: 75 minutes with intermission. Audience talkback after every show.
In the human brain, the amygdala is the area that attempts to integrate strong emotions with our behavior and motivation. It is the seat of the "fight or flight" response. Love is one of the strongest emotions humans experience. Love can be glorious or dangerousor both. Who or what decides? Amygdala Rest explores the mental health effects of falling in and out of love. How does drinking a cocktail of love hormones, or waking up without that drink, leave short and long-term effects on our brain? Blending the words of noted scholars such as Helen Fisher and Diane Ackerman with true stories of ordinary people, three performers portray multiple characters who explore, challenge and confront how our minds and bodies grapple with love.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
