Mütter Museum Presents: The Skin She Lived In: Anthropodermic Books at College of Physicians of Philadelphia: Illustrated lecture by Beth Lander, introduced and moderated by Daniel K. Smith
Date: Monday, February 22nd Time: 7pm Admission: $8 Location: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 Third Avenue, 11215 Brooklyn NY
The College of Physicians of Philadelphia holds the largest collection of confirmed anthropodermic books books bound in human skin in the United States. But what makes them truly unique is the story of the doctor and the "donor" for the skin used to bind three of the books. Tonight, join Beth Lander, Librarian of The College, for the story of Dr. John Stockton Hough, Mary Lynch, and the skin she lived in. It will bring a whole new meaning to wrapping yourself up in a good book.
Beth Lander - Librarian, Archivist, book addict, cat herder, and chocolaholic. Beth has been the librarian at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia since June 2014. Prior to swearing that any body part removed during surgery would become part of the Mütter Museum collections, Beth worked as library director in a two-year college outside of Philadelphia, and was library director at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown. Beth lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her husband, her elderly mother, an elderly cat and an elderly bearded dragon.
