Band in Seattle live television taping with Sundries and Wild Powwers
What's more Seattle than supporting your local businesses? Supporting your local musicians, that's what. So be a responsible Northwestern-er and get yourself down to Victory Studios for the taping of our next episode of Band in Seattle with artists Sundries and Wild Powwers on February 11th, 2016. Each band will perform a 45-minute concert, followed by a filmed interview and music trivia webisode, sponsored in part by American Music. Front doors open at 6PM at Victory Studios, 2247 15th Avenue West (near the Interbay Golf Center) and the concert ends approximately at 10PM.
Sundries: Frank's voice is a thing of beauty, whether wallowing in bluesy growls or breaking with emotion. It's a rich, impressive instrument, calling to mind Concrete Blonde's Johnette Neapolitano or Goodness' Carrie Akre. She sings of relationships, sex, drinking, blood, and living in the city. She sings from the gut, spitting dirty words like bullets at times, and others twisting her voice around like a snake. Travis Gillett's and Frank's guitars twine around each other as well, spiraling and then jagging as called for in each song. Meanwhile, the thudda-thudda, propelling rhythm of Leah Julius' drumming along with Ben Lindbloom's bass provide something to groove to. Indeed, as The Wave begins, it's the rhythm section that pulls the listener in and hooks them before "Say What You Mean" builds up to Frank's breathy "Hey, hello." SMI
Wild Powwers: Ok, ok, ok. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. Check this band out. I've never, ever, heard drums hit as hard as Lupe Flores does. She floats behind her kit just absolutely crushing every beat and singing harmonies while lead singer Lara Hilgeman owns every song with a voice that ranges from angelic to destructive. This ain't no folk band, though I'm sure grunge/shoegaze is the folk music of some pretty cool folks. Bring your whole family to the darkened confines of the Vera Project, and leave assured that rock and roll in Seattle is very alive. -AMERICAN STANDARD TIME
