QUEEN OF COOL: A Tribute to Miss Peggy Lee
A cast of great Savannah musicians will share the Peggy Lee story, playing 20 legendary songs, and relating legends about The Queen of Cool. How she hit the big time with Benny Goodman in the 40's, with Walt Disney in the 50's, with Cy Coleman in the 60's, a Grammy Award in the 70's, and so much more. The evening's lineup will include Linus Enoksson, Jackson Evans, Jared Hall, David Harris, Jane Ogle, and John Tisbert.
"The Queen of Cool: A Tribute to Miss Peggy Lee" will be presented as part of the Trinity Sanctuary Concert Series at Trinity United Methodist Church, next to The Jepson Center on Telfair Square, on Thursday February 11th. Doors open at 7pm, showtime at 7:30pm. Located at 225 West President Street, Savannah, Georgia 31401.
Miss Peggy Lee's singing career, which spanned six decades, was punctuated by successful forays into songwriting, film acting, painting, and poetry and sculpture. Over 200 songs are credited to her as lyricist or composer, and she received an Academy Award nomination. Meanwhile each of her four marriages ended in divorce, she was an overly controlling band leader, and she struggled with major health issues from a very early age.
Miss Peggy Lee thrived on the love and energy she received from her audiences, so she worked doubly hard to deliver the best possible music and the best possible showmanship to earn and return that love. Her cool and calm demeanor on stage belied a vigorous and passionate approach to every performance - and a deep fear of failing to measure up.
