Community MLK Event with author Dr. Leah Gunning Francis
What happens when St. Louis-area faith leaders step down from the pulpits of their congregations to speak out for justice in our community? When does faith pull people from behind the podium into the streets? These are the themes of a new book by Dr. Leah Gunning Francis, Associate Dean of Eden Theological Seminary.
Francis interviewed local clergy members of many faiths in the months after the shooting death of Michael Brown and their responses are collected in Ferguson and Faith: Sparking Leadership and Awakening Community.
Dr. Francis will be joined by Rabbi Elizabeth Hersh, Senior Rabbi of Temple Emanuel, and F. Javier Orozco, OFS, PhD, Executive Director of Intercultural and Interreligious Affairs for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Rabbi Hersh will discuss her activism on Human Trafficking while Orozco will feature his efforts on Immigration Reform.
This event is in partnership with the Jewish Community Relations Council's Michael and Barbara Newmark Institute for Human Relations.
Single tickets for this event are $10 each; Free for holders of the 2015 JBF Premier Passes
Half-price student tickets are available only at the J's Box Office at the Staenberg Family Complex in Creve Coeur with a valid ID.
