RIWP 2016 Annual Spring Conference
We hope you will join us this year for our annual Spring Conference. Now more than ever, the teaching of writing and literacy is part of our collective mission as educators, from the primary grades through college. The RIWP Spring Conference is a great way to reinvigorate and renew your pedagogy and practice as teachers of writing!
We are excited to announce our 2016 keynote speaker, Linda Rief, whose keynote talk is titled:
"The Importance of Story."
Linda is an 8th grade teacher at Oyster River Middle School in Durham, NH where she has taught for the last 35 years. She is the author or coeditor of seven Heinemann titles, including ReadWriteTeach (2014), Adolescent Literacy (2007), Inside the Writer's- Reader's Notebook (2007) and Seeking Diversity (1992), as well as 100 Quickwrites (Scholastic 2003). She is also an instructor in UNH's Summer Literacy Institute. She chaired the Early Adolescent ELA committee of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards during its inception and its first three years. Her classroom has been featured in several Annenberg programs on reading and writing. She is a national and international presenter on issues of adolescent literacy. Most importantly, she has kept a Writing-Reading Notebook herself for the past 30 years.
The RIWP Annual Spring Conference is a professional development opportunity for K-16 teachers looking for innovative ways to inspire and engage students with writing and literacy. Those who attend will have the opportunity to hear from and meet with a nationally regarded leader in teaching, to participate in workshops, and to network with other educators.
The mission of the Rhode Island Writing Project is to strengthen the teaching of writing in schools. Over one thousand teachers have participated in RIWP programs since 1985. These teachers bring new ideas and inspirations to their colleagues and classrooms in Rhode Island's schools.
