Jewish Sacred Choral Music
Jewish Sacred Choral Music, a concert performed by Colla Voce, directed by Larry Wyatt, will feature the World Premiere of a new arrangement of Meira Warshauer's Shacharit for SATB chorus and soloists with organ and percussion on Thursday, January 28 7:30 PM at Trinity Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street in Columbia, South Carolina.
Soloists will be Serena Hill-LaRoche, soprano; Aaron Cates, tenor; Jacob Will, bass; Elena Martinez-Vidal, narrator; Kenneth Miller, organ and percussionists from University of South Carolina.
The program also includes Warshauer's Akhat Sha'alti (One thing I ask), for chorus and percussion.
She writes, "Shacharit (morning service) interprets the form and content of the Sabbath morning synagogue service. While conceived as a concert setting of the texts, the harmonic/melodic structure also contains references to the traditional Ashkenazic prayer modes of the service." The piece was recorded for Albany Records as part of her Streams in the Desert Collection.
The concert will also feature the U.S. premiere (and first performance outside of Israel) of David and Goliath by Israeli composer Aharon Harlap. More about the concert of Jewish Sacred Choral Music at http://meirawarshauer.com/events/colla-voce-performs-jewish-sacred-music/.
