Chipmunk Taxidermy Class with Katie Innamorato
Date: Sunday, January 17th Time: 12pm-7pm Admission: $250
EXPERIENCE LEVEL-Beginner to Intermediate
Limited class size of 10 people
This class will introduce students to the process and techniques behind basic small mammal taxidermy. Students will learn how to skin, prep, preserve, mount, and position the animal. Basic armatures will be created and used, and students will learn how to carve head forms. Dry preservation methods will be used in class, but tanning will be discussed and walked through. Students are encouraged to bring in any small props they may want to dress the animal up in. All specimens, materials, and tools for the class and provided. Each student will leave with his or her own finished mount.
Katie Innamorato is one of our taxidermists in residence and is a professionally trained taxidermy artist. She is an active MART and Garden State Taxidermist Association member. Her work has been featured on the TV shows "Oddities and Odd Folks Home," displayed at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles and various other galleries. She was recently published in the book Taxidermy Art by Robert Marbury and featured on Vice. She has also done demonstrations and lectures at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and at The Institute Library in Connecticut We use NO harsh or dangerous chemicals. Everyone will be provided with gloves and sanitary equipment. All animals are disease free. Animals are sourced through roadkill, scraps from other taxidermists, donations, abatement/nuisance work, pet industry casualties, frozen feeders, and discards from the food service industry. Nothing is ever killed specifically for our classes.
