Q&A
Question: |
Is there any possibility of letting under-21s in? I'm a queer 19-going-on-20 student visiting from the UK who can't drink alcohol in any case due to a stomach problem and my friends and I would love to go to Queerly Beloved... If not, can you recommend any other less expensive, alternative pride parties that don't have an age restriction? Thanks! |
Answer: |
I am sorry, but as El Rio is a bar there is no way to let people under 21 into the party, I'm so sorry! As a sober person myself, I totally understand the frustration with alcohol-dominated events and I promise, I'll try to do something all-ages soon. You should definitely go to the park during the day before the Trans march and Dyke March and make connections there. You should also look for parties in the streets in the Mission - there's a pretty famous one that happens in between Delores and Valencia and 19th and 20th that is SO MCUH FUN, and free, and punk, et cetera. Good luck, have fun, and stay safe! |

Question: |
I'm a gay trans guy with a queer cis boyfriend. We were actually kicked out of the after party for the trans march at the elbo room. We had only gotten one round of drinks so we weren't "too drunk", as the manager apparently told the bouncer. My boyfriend and I suspect that we made the manager "uncomfortable" by being a mixed cis/trans gay guy couple who were openly showing affection (i.e. making out). We were both devastated that our pride is turning out so awful. From your experience, will we feel welcome at queerly beloved or will our love for each other make people so uncomfortable that the manager of the el rio create false pretenses to get rid of us the way the manager of elbo room did? (For clarification, he didn't cut us off from the bar, which is usual protocol if someone is too drunk, he kicked us out.) |
Answer: |
this is a welcoming space for trans people and thier partners. el rio is also one of the queerest, and friendliest, places i've ever partied in. anyone seen exhibiting sexist, transphobic, racist, fatphobic, homophobic, slut-shaming, or ablist behavior will be asked to leave by the organizers of the party, backed by El Rio security. this is a queer, trans-inclusive, identity-affirming, consent mandatory, feminist, community-building space that aims to be respectful to all. |
