Hilarious, Heartbreaking & Provocative Solo Performances
B E T H M C L A U G H L I N ---------------------------------------- "Cocky"
Beth and her father are in the back yard of Gunnar Gunheim, near downtown Novato. One of these two men is a stranger to her. And it's not Gunnar Gunheim.
K E L L Y R A F F E R T Y -------------------------------------- "Puberty 2.0"
With the rest of the family at a minor league ball game, Kelly and Danny (the high school boyfriend) had the house to themselves for hours. Until they didn't. He was on top of her when they heard the basement door open. Footsteps on the stairs. Kelly's mom appeared, inexplicably sputtering and clapping. But this surprise was not the most awkward thing to happen that week.
A D Y L A D Y ---------------------------------- "Meditations on Muni" (an excerpt from "From Piss to Bliss")
Ady desperately wants to love mankind. How is she supposed to do this on Muni? Can a hymn offer salvation? And are we all really reflections of one another or was Deepak lying about that? One thing is certain: a golden shower is not a baptism.
S C O T T B A R R Y ---------------------------------------- "Raising Big Baby in a Bad, Bad World"
It's a thump. A low dull thump. The distinct sound only a body can make upon impact with an immovable object. Scott sprints up the stairs, two, three at a time, knowing his wife will greet him with a "Relax, Safety Dad, everything's OK." But instead her jaw is tight and she's holding their screaming daughter in her arms. Their daughter who they fought so hard to bring into this world and now has a dent in the back of her head. A dent? Scott's gut twists like it did the time he tore the vinyl seat on his brand new Toyota pickup the first day he owned it -- but worse by a million times. A truck is just a thing. And vinyl seats can easily be fixed.
