Copenhagen
"Copenhagen" is the second show of Emerald City Scene's second season, written by Michael Frayn and directed by one of ECS' founding members, Joe Mangialardi. The play recounts the lives and friendship of Niels Bohr and Werner Heisenberg, two early 20th-century theoretical physicists whose theories on quantum mechanics eventually became the basis of atomic theory and shaped the post WWII world in ways neither could have imagined. Told simultaneously in narrative and flashback forms, the bulk of the action revolves around Heisenberg's trip from Berlin to meet with Bohr in occupied Copenhagen in September 1941, and the ensuing conversation that ultimately ended their friendship of nearly twenty years. "Copenhagen" performs at the East Hall Theater in Freehold on Capitol Hill, January 18-20 and 25-27. It features Jesse Parce as Bohr, James Swift as Heisenberg, and Sharon Dummar as Bohr's wife Margrethe.
