More about Julie: Julie (Sullivan) Mayfield wears many hats, including those of bestselling author, small business owner, volunteer and mother.
Julie and her husband (Charles Mayfield) wrote Paleo Comfort Foods: Homestyle Cooking for a Gluten-Free Kitchen in 2011, one of the first Paleo cookbooks available on store shelves. It was a national bestseller and to this day they often have people tell them that their book was the first one they owned and helped get their whole family onboard with Paleo. Two years after releasing Paleo Comfort Foods, they penned Quick and Easy Paleo Comfort Foods.
As trainer and co-owner at Atlanta Strength and Conditioning, Julie is part of the team of coaches who work with individuals on achieving their personal goals for health, energy and fitness in a positive, uplifting and supportive environment. Julie and Charles opened their first gym location in 2010, and have seen quite a few members of the Muss & Turners and Local Three family come through their doors.
Prior to her entrepreneurial endeavors, Julie spent most of her adult working life in the non-profit sector, having worked for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Atlanta Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games in a variety of roles spanning media relations to research coordination to biographical writer. Julie graduated from Emory University in 1996.
Since 1998, Julie has been an active volunteer with Camp Sunshine the organization in Georgia that provides programs and services for children with cancer and their families - most notably a summer camp experience for kids ages 7-18.
Julie is also mom to Scott (3) and Adelyn (1) and says that her children will fight you for the chicharonnes at Muss & Turner'sit's their favorite snack.
More about Camp Sunshine: Camp Sunshine: "A place to play. A place to feel safe. A place to giggle. A place to escape. A place to share. Mere words can't describe Camp Sunshine, because it's more than a place. It's more than a camp. It's more than a house. It's a program that offers an infusion of love, support, fun, acceptance and hope for children with cancer, and it's in full swing all year long. Camp Sunshine is a celebration of life that helps renew the spirit of young children with cancer and their families. The children and families who attend Camp Sunshine programs realize they are not alone in their struggle with cancer. Children with cancer are normal children with special needs who want to participate fully in the everyday experiences of growing up. Camp Sunshine provides programs throughout the year to give children with cancer the opportunity to enjoy normal activities like swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts, and making friends!"
