Arvo Pärt Day presented by the New York Choral Society. the Mannes School of Music and the Arvo Pärt Project
The New York Choral Society (NYChoral), the Mannes School of Music and the Arvo Pärt Project are excited to present this special day-long celebration of the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt which leads to a performance by the Mannes Orchestra of Pärts 3rd Symphony on April 8 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.

The Lost Paradise  1:00 - 2:30pm

Arvo Pärt and the famed stage director Robert Wilson collaborated on the multimedia production "Adam's Passion" that premiered in Tallinn in May 2015. Their creative process is documented in this film by Günter Atteln through informative interviews, evocative cinematography, and excerpts from the stunning product of their work.

Live Performances  2:45 - 3:30pm

Members of NYChoral and the Mannes Orchestra, will provide, as well as perform significant examples of Pärts musical style. Conducted by Maestro David Hayes, Music Director of The New York Choral Society, this section will feature additional commentary by Dr. Nicholas Reeves.  

Symposium Panel  3:45 - 5:15pm

A panel of some of New York's most insightful and engaging commentators will discuss the uncannily broad reach of Arvo Pärt's work and its effect on music critics, classical  mavens, rock stars, artists, film-directors, bishops, rabbis and tech-geeks.

Dr. Peter Bouteneff (moderator)

Theologian and musician, he teaches at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary, where he co-founded the Arvo Pärt Project, and directs the Sacred Arts Initiative. He is author, most recently, of Arvo Pärt: Out of Silence.

Dr. Nicholas Reeves

Composer, producer, and music professor based in New York. He co-founded the Arvo Pärt Project with Peter Bouteneff.

Corinna da Fonseca-Wollheim

Writer, violinist, and contributing classical music critic for The New York Times.

John Schaefer

Best known as the host of WNYC's Soundcheck and New Sounds, he is also author of several significant books and essays on music.
